In an op-ed for Euractiv, Norwegian Data Protection Commissioner Bjørn Erik Thon, Norwegian Consumer Council Director Inger Lise Blyverket, and Amnesty International Norway General Secretary John Peder Egenæs call for a ban on surveillance-based advertising. “It is unacceptable to violate fundamental human and consumer rights in an attempt at serving more relevant ads. The business model of the tech giants is incompatible with the right to privacy,” they said. “It entails major challenges to human and consumer rights.”
