The U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology and the Office for Civil Rights are holding a conference, "Safeguarding Health Information: Building Assurance through HIPAA Security 2019," Oct. 16 and 17 in Washington. "The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act Security Rule remains the cornerstone for protecting health-related information, but effective protection of health information cannot be achieved by simply following past year’s formulas for compliance with the Rule," NIST said in its news release for the conference. The 11th annual event will address and explore the growing challenges organizations are tackling as it relates to health records and information while offering insight on how to approach security and access during this evolving period.
