The U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology will host a virtual public workshop Sept. 14 and 15 on protecting consumer information collected or maintained by smart household products. A May 2021 executive order directed the NIST, the Federal Trade Commission and other agencies to launch efforts to improve labeling for Internet-of-Things devices to educate consumers on their cybersecurity implications and review safer consumer software development practices.
