The U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology and the National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence announced they will accept comments on the draft “Securing Small-Business and Home Internet of Things (IoT) Devices: Mitigating Network-Based Attacks Using Manufacturer Usage Description (MUD)” document until June 24. The groups ask internet-of-things device manufacturers whether they have a better understanding to implement “manufacturer usage descriptions” into their products. Network equipment manufacturers are asked if they would consider MUD in their offerings, while communication service providers are prompted to reveal whether the guide helped in “understanding how wide deployment of MUD could help reduce [distributed denial-of-service] attacks.”
