Gov. Gavin Newsom, D-Calif., signed Assembly Bill 2273, the California Age-Appropriate Design Code Act, into law. Newsom called the law an "aggressive action" on "the real issues our children are experiencing online" while praising its provisions for children's data processing limits and data protection impact assessments on online services that could be accessed by minors. He also mentioned the Children’s Data Protection Working Group, established by the law and tasked to review and report on implementation by the time the bill applies July 1, 2024. Editor's note: The IAPP's Joe Duball reported on the passage of the California Age-Appropriate Design Code Act.
