Gov. Gavin Newsom, D-Calif., signed a pair of bills into law that amend the California Consumer Privacy Act and the California Privacy Rights Act. Assembly Bill 694 amends the CPRA with technical changes to California Civil Code sections on definitions and exemptions while also clarifying the timing for CPRA rulemaking by the California Privacy Protection Agency. AB 825 adds genetic data to the definition of personal information under California's data breach notification law. Newsom also signed Senate Bill 41, the Genetic Information Privacy Act.
