In an effort to recognize companies and organizations that go above and beyond to protect customers’ private information, New Zealand’s Privacy Commission hopes to create a merit-based “tick” of approval as an identifiable mark of trust for consumers, RNZ reports. While accreditation is still in design, Privacy Commissioner John Edwards believes that this will help distinguish exceptional companies and make “privacy easy” by vetting companies so that consumers can feel at ease. Edwards explains that “more and more businesses actually want to be recognised for the effort they put into privacy, and more and more consumers want to know what companies have good privacy policies.”
