New policies regulating the use of facial recognition technology have been imposed by Utah’s Department of Public Safety, FOX 13 reports. Changes include requirements that outside agencies must submit a formal request yielding one single result rather than a series of potential matches, bias training for DPS employees using the technology, and annual audits of the system and its effectiveness. Some civil liberties groups, including the Libertas Institute, would like to see the policies in a state law.
