Sony’s new Visual Speech Enablement uses cameras and artificial intelligence to read lips, PCMag reports. The technology translates a user’s lip movements into words regardless of any background noise or distance between the sensor and user. The technology is initially planned to be marketed for uses like factory automation or voice-enabled ATMs. VP of Product Technology and Innovation Mark Hanson said the technology does not capture faces and user-identifiable data is not retained.
