Science, Energy and Technology Minister Fayval Williams is encouraging health care organizations to prepare for the Data Protection Bill, which will require strengthened efforts to protect patient information, Jamaica Information Service reports. Under the bill, which is before a Joint Select Committee of Parliament, there will be “new rights to our personal data” and health care organizations will be required to ensure data is “safe and secure,” Williams said. The bill includes guidelines on collecting, processing, storing, using and disclosing personal data.
