NPR reports on a slew of platforms designed to give users the ability to sell their personal information to advertisers and marketers. Datacoup, Handshake and Meeco all share the same goal of cutting out the data-broker middleman by allowing users to profit from their personal data. “The way we see it,” said Handshake CEO Paul Davis, “your data belongs to you. So if someone should be making a profit on it, it should be you.” MIT Technology Review also profiles Datacoup. Meanwhile, Google Play has reinstated the privacy-enhancing app Disconnect Mobile two weeks after removing it for reportedly violating Google’s app-developer agreement. Disconnect Mobile Cofounder Casey Oppenheim had said Google’s reasoning was “vague” and “overly broad.”
