Companies on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean are watching closely to see if negotiators will meet an Article 29 Working Party’s imposed Jan. 31 deadline for a data-transfer deal. U.S. senators are scrambling to pass the Judicial Redress Act. Prognostications have been dire. But today, the privacy community saw a ray of hope. At the Computers, Privacy, and Data Protection Conference, the Federal Trade Commission’s Julie Brill and European Commission’s Paul Nemitz indicated there’s a strong possibility of a deal being in place by Monday, when European Commissioner Vera Jourová is scheduled to brief the Parliament’s LIBE Committee.
