In a move that has raised some privacy concerns, a text message sent out by a volunteer campaign worker for Paula Bennett revealed voters' telephone numbers that were allegedly collected by the electoral roll, the NZ Herald reports. The National Party's deputy leader explained it is a normal practice to call and text voters but it was unfortunate that the message was sent via iMessage, displaying the list of 40 phone numbers. The electoral commission stated, "It is factually incorrect to say that phone numbers are from the electoral roll," adding, "The Commission would like to assure people that phone numbers provided to the Commission are not released to anyone."
