Business Insider reports the current version of the National Defense Authorization Act 2023 includes provisions to allow for investigation into "foreign weaponization" of advertising technology data. The omnibus spending bill, which sits with the U.S. Senate after passage by the House, empowers the Office of the Director of National Intelligence to probe ad auction data that could include direct personal data or points of inference, including geolocation data. If the bill passes, the ODNI has 60 days to conduct a risk assessment of the effects of adtech data.
