In an interview with Information Security Media Group, Wiley Rein's Kirk Nahra, CIPP/US, looks at what the future of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act could look like. Nahra explained the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is examining the idea of potentially streamlining regulatory burdens and that health-related social media sites, as well as health apps, could find themselves covered under HIPAA in the future. In a separate interview, Rebecca Herold, CIPP/US, CIPM, CIPT, FIP, offers predictions for health care data privacy and security for the year ahead. Among the predictions, Herold notes an increase of incidents and breaches, as well as enforcement actions from state attorney general offices.
