In an op-ed for Fast Company, NAACP Legal Defense Fund Litigation Fellow John S. Cusick and Equal Justice Works Fellow Clarence Okoh called on school districts to ban use of facial recognition technology in schools. “Facial recognition technology represents an unprecedented expansion of monitoring and surveillance,” he said. “Constant surveillance can increase student anxiety and stress, particularly if captured data is being used for student assessment, monitoring, and disciplinary decisions.”
