The Northwest Territories health department announced there have been eight privacy breaches of patients’ information over the past year, CBC News reports. Of the eight instances, one breach was classified as “snooping,” five breaches were “unauthorized disclosure, accidental, non-malicious," while the other two were deemed to be intentional, but not malicious in nature. The breaches involved paper records, emails, a portable device, and a verbal breach. The N.W.T. health department said none of the breaches resulted in prosecutions or sanctions, but it said procedures and policies have been changed, including additional training and strengthening processes around its electronic health system.
