Following the discovery that Phoenix-area Motel 6 locations were sending guest list data to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the company has decided to initiate steps to shut down or prevent similar operations at its other properties nationwide, SC Media reports. The company’s privacy policy notes that an abundance of data is collected on guests and also states it “may disclose guest information to law enforcement agencies, or may be required to disclose it during the discovery process in litigation, pursuant to a court order, or in compliance with any applicable law, regulation, rule or ordinance.” The company said it would make clear that Motel 6 locations knew they were “prohibited from voluntarily providing daily guest lists to ICE” and would begin a review and issue updated, companywide guidelines to respect guests’ rights.
