Nieman Journalism Lab reports on the U.S. news sites still unavailable to European Union visitors since the EU General Data Protection Regulation went into effect. Since May 25, several major news organizations are still blocking EU users, such as the Chicago Tribune, Newsday and the New York Daily News. Self-proclaimed “rogue archivist” Joseph O’Connor began tracking U.S. news sites that have taken this course of action since May, finding more than 1,000 U.S. news sites, including a third of the largest newspapers in the country, are inaccessible to users in the European Union.
