TikTok is among 59 Chinese mobile apps that have been banned in India, accused by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology of breaching users’ privacy and mining their data, the Financial Times reports. The ministry called the apps’ use of data “hostile to national security.” Meanwhile, in Australia, Labor Senator Jenny McAllister, chairing the Senate Select Committee inquiry into foreign interference through social media, said TikTok should provide details on its approach to privacy and content moderation.
