German Minister of the Interior Thomas de Maiziere has indicated “the government is preparing for major changes in IT security and data protection,” Telecompaper reports, noting in Germany’s “first IT security law, it will set industry standards, affecting companies in energy, information technology and telecommunications, transport, health, water, food and financial services.” Germany’s data protection law “is outmoded as it has not kept up with technical developments,” de Maiziere suggested, adding the EU Data Protection Directive “will completely replace the German law on this issue,” the report states.
