The Wall Street Journal reports Microsoft is moving closer to an agreement to purchase TikTok's operations in the U.S., Canada, Australia and New Zealand. The Big Tech company has been quietly negotiating to acquire the maligned app in recent weeks before President Donald Trump's proposed U.S. ban of the short-video app made negotiations public. In a statement, Microsoft said it appreciates the administration's work for "strong security protections," adding that it will protect user data, specifically that of U.S. citizens.
