First, Bird announced its open-source platform for its work on differential privacy has been renamed SmartNoise. Bird went on to address what Microsoft has learned about SmartNoise and differential privacy through its research, noting specifics on application areas like machine learning and advertising queries on LinkedIn. "We’re only scraping the surface of what’s possible — and starting to understand the barriers and limitations that exist," Bird said.
