Euronews reports EU member states are intrigued by Sweden's deployment of microchip implants for various day-to-day technological uses. The chips, which can be paired with mobile devices, come with privacy risks related to the signals they give off. "It’s similar to listening in to a directional microphone, you can pick up the (radio-frequency identification) signal as well," said Future of Privacy Forum Managing Director of Europe Robbert van Eijk, who added the signal stealing could reveal identities in close contact.
