Meta informed the Australian government it "strongly opposes" Privacy Act reforms that would hamper its ability to utilize direct marketing and targeted advertising, the Australian Financial Review reports. Meta also opposes provisions that give citizens "an unqualified 'opt out' option" for personal advertisements. "The largest concern there is this 'opt out' of targeted advertising," Meta Global Privacy Policy Director Melinda Claybaugh said. "It goes beyond any other law that’s been passed in any country right now."
