Parent company Meta delayed plans to implement end-to-end encryption on Facebook and Instagram until 2023 over child safety concerns, BBC News reports. While the technology enables only senders and receivers to read messages, child protection groups and politicians raised concerns it could impact child abuse investigations. The National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children called private messaging “the front line of child sexual abuse.” Meta’s Global Head of Safety Antigone Davis said the company is taking time “to get this right.”
