Members of European Parliament called on EU institutions to consider sanctions against Poland and Hungary for their surveillance practices using NSO Group's "Pegasus" spyware, EU Observer reports. "The EU's response must be vigorous," Dutch MEP Jeroen Lenaers said, adding the situation is an example of when "cyber weapons that have been developed to fight terrorism are used instead to undermine democratic checks and balances." Hungary's National Authority for Data Protection and Freedom of Information did not find a violation with the Pegasus applications, but committed to filing criminal complaints.
