Public and private media organizations in Australia are pushing back on proposed Privacy Act changes that would enable citizens to sue and be compensated for privacy breaches, the Financial Review reports. Telecommunications companies and members of the business community have supported the groups. The Australian Office of the Information Commissioner supports the Competition and Consumer Commission’s recommendation for a private right of action, stating it should not be limited to only serious breaches.
