In light of the Federal Trade Commission’s case on faulty router encryption, the agency’s Terrell McSweeny discusses the importance of protecting consumers as the debate over backdoors for IoT and mobile devices rages in an op-ed for Re/code. “There is a lot at stake for consumers in this debate, because it could affect how companies secure the IoT products permeating our daily lives,” McSweeny said. “Chilling innovation in the security of these products would be unfortunate, adding that “a careful and balanced approach is necessary in order to avoid a major setback for consumer privacy and data security.”
