Marriott International revealed more details about its recent data breach, The Wall Street Journal reports. The hotel chain said in a release the number of individuals affected by the breach is less than the 500 million originally estimated. Marriott believes 383 million records is “the upper limit” for records compromised in the incident, and since multiple records belong to the same guest, the total number of breach victims will likely come in below the 383 million figure. Marriott also announced more than 5 million unencrypted passport numbers were stolen, with another 20 million encrypted passports caught up in the breach, as well. (Registration may be required to access this story.)
