The Canadian Global Cities Council has released “policy playbooks” in which it recommends the creation of a national data strategy, Global News reports. The council is made up of the chambers of commerce from eight Canadian cities, including Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, Montreal and Winnipeg. In its “Trade & Innovation Policy Playbook,” the council recommends a data governance framework to be established in order to bring the Digital Charter’s principles “into meaningful data portability, privacy, security, and commercialization policies, in consultation with the business community.” A national data strategy would also include better leveraging data gathered by Statistics Canada in order to make it easier for businesses to access “critical information.”
