Carnegie Mellon University announced Lorrie Faith Cranor, CIPT, as the new director of the school’s security and privacy institute, CyLab. The institute works to bring together university leaders with the goal of “creating a world in which technology can be trusted.” Cranor said, “I look forward to supporting CyLab's ongoing success and bolstering research aimed at making our increasingly digital world safe and trustworthy.” Currently, Cranor is the FORE Systems professor of computer science and of engineering and public policy, director of the CyLab Usable Privacy and Security Laboratory, and co-director of Carnegie Mellon's Privacy Engineering master's program. Previously, she served as chief technologist at the U.S. Federal Trade Commission in 2016 and received the IAPP’s 2018 Leadership Award.
