CBC News reports on the benefits Canadian citizens will see as the EU General Data Protection Regulation goes into effect. While the GDPR covers EU citizens, some tech companies are extending the protections of the rules to cover all their users around the world. Former Ontario Information and Privacy Commissioner Ann Cavoukian sees this as a positive for Canadians while adding the GDPR will likely force the country to take another look at its own privacy laws. "For the first time ever, our laws will not be considered adequate," Cavoukian said. "Eventually, when our laws get an upgrade, which the privacy commissioner is desperately trying to do, we will have the same privacy protections. But for now, we don't."
