TechCrunch reports Transport for London is preparing to deploy Wi-Fi tracking for the London Underground starting 8 July. The tracking will involve privacy-protected data collection that will contribute to new passenger benefits, such as alerts on delays and general traffic. The tracking will also be used toward improving in-station marketing analytics as it will count the number of people caught by billboards and ad units. Transport for London intends to notify commuters about the new data collection methods by posting signage around stations.
