Renowned data scientist Andrea Lodi, who is coming to École Polytechnique de Montréal this fall as the new Canada Excellence Research Chair (CERC) “hopes to use the $22 million he has been given to set up shop at Polytechnique to help make sense of the explosion of online data and convert it into knowledge that will help organizations and governments make opportune decisions,” Montreal Gazette reports. “What is cool is the possibility of living in a smarter world because of big data,” Lodi said. He also acknowledges he “worries about ‘the trade-off between telling Google a lot about myself’ versus how much he gets back, such as traffic detours and other applications,” the report states.
