Liechtenstein’s data protection authority, Datenschutzstelle, said decisions by other European data protection authorities confirm its view that there is no legal basis to justify personal data transfers to the U.S. associated with Google Analytics. The authority called on website designers “to use alternative, data protection-compliant solutions.” While it is not conducting investigations into Google Analytics use, the DPA said several complaints filed in Liechtenstein “could be resolved amicably by the website operators immediately deactivating Google Analytics.” Editor’s note: IAPP Editorial Director Jedidiah Bracy, CIPP, reported details from a LinkedIn Live discussion on the Google Analytics decisions and what organizations can do to mitigate their risk profile.
