In a post for ZDNet, Forrester Research discusses the growing legal and regulatory implications of biometric data collection. The use of biometric technology has exploded over the last few years, and while it offers convenience for users, it also raises concerns on how the data is collected, stored and used. In addition to the already established Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act, several other states, including Massachusetts, New York and Michigan, have draft bills in development. Meanwhile, just days after it was reported that genealogy company GEDmatch tweaked its rules to allow Utah police to search for a suspect in a violent assault case, the company updated its terms of service so that users must now opt in to allow their DNA profiles to be used in law enforcement searches, according to BuzzFeed News.
