A survey conducted by Deloitte found few businesses continuously monitor their supply chains, the Financial Times reports. Of the 1,000 businesses polled around the world, only 1 in 10 said they regularly monitor their subcontractors, while only 2 percent knew who all their subcontractors are and normally keep track of their work. Failing to keep tabs on supply chains could result in companies facing penalties under the EU General Data Protection Regulation, as any data leaks via third-party data processors would impact the data controller.
Companies are relying on numerous third parties, as 44 percent of respondents said they work with more than 1,000 third parties, and 31 percent working with between 1,000 and 10,000 third parties. (Registration may be required to access this story.)
