A class-action federal lawsuit has been filed against Apple by customers who claim information from their iTunes purchases was sold to third parties, Billboard reports. Three plaintiffs from Rhode Island and Michigan claim Apple mined and sold their information despite Apple’s “pro-consumer positions on issues of data privacy.” The lawsuit also claims the data collection was done in violation of their states’ privacy laws. According to Apple’s privacy policy, it only collects “non-personal information” that is not directly connected to individual users. Apple says the information is “used to help us provide more useful information to our customers and to understand which parts of our website, products and services are of most interest.”
