Ten members of the U.S. House of Representatives wrote a letter to congressional leaders urging national security powers remain status quo in the wake of the Capitol riot Jan. 6 to ensure the protection of civil liberties. Led by Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., lawmakers wrote that Congress must "resist the erosion of our civil liberties and Constitutional freedoms" while adding "the national security and surveillance powers of the U.S. government are already too broad, undefined, and unaccountable to the people."
