Lawmakers seek FTC boost in Build Back Better Act

As part of a proposed $3.5 trillion economic package, lawmakers from the U.S. House Committee on Energy and Commerce are proposing $1 billion in funding for the Federal Trade Commission to create a division for privacy enforcement, The Washington Post reports. According to a draft provision in the Build Back Better Act, the FTC's new bureau would deal with matters "related to unfair or deceptive acts or practices relating to privacy, data security, identity theft, data abuses, and related matters."
