U.S. Congress members asked the Federal Trade Commission to investigate the mobile industry's practice of tracking consumers through digital ads, The Wall Street Journal reports. The lawmakers pointed to the industry's use of "bidstream" data acquired from ads on mobile apps and websites, which can include users' location and demographic information. “Unregulated data brokers have access to bidstream data and are using it in outrageous ways that violate Americans’ privacy,” the lawmakers wrote in a letter to the FTC.
