A new law in Hong Kong that would require people to provide their real name and personal details to register mobile phone numbers, including prepaid SIM cards, is raising surveillance concerns, The Wall Street Journal reports. The policy would take effect in September. Assistant Professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong School of Journalism and Communication Lokman Tsui said it is an invasion of privacy. “The Hong Kong government continues to make policies that show they don’t trust their own citizens,” he said.
