CBSNewYork reports that law enforcement robots have started patrolling several neighborhoods in New York, as well as at LaGuardia Airport. Each robot contains five cameras, one of which uses thermal-imaging technology. The data gathered by the patrol is communicated to an internet-based portal accessed by local security and law enforcement. The robots can also observe pedestrians on sidewalks, record license-plate numbers, and detect cellphone serial numbers. Knightscope CEO William Santana Li said, "This is a crazy combination of artificial intelligence, self-driving autonomous technology, robotics, and analytics in something that's actually useful for society."
