IT World Canada reports Canadian privacy advocates see privacy concerns among citizens as a leading factor for slower uptake with the country's COVID-19 contact-tracing app, COVID Alert. University of Ottawa Faculty of Law Internet and E-commerce Law Canada Research Chair Michael Geist explained that citizens have a relative distrust with the government over privacy due to "years of relatively ineffective privacy legislation." Former Ontario Privacy Commissioner Ann Cavoukian also noted the "trust deficit" in Canada in regards to individuals sharing their data.
