A lawsuit against credit reporting firm Equifax alleges the company failed to protect the information of hundreds of thousands of Kroger employees following a data breach, AJC.com reports. The suit was filed last week by a Kroger employee who said the breach could also affect employees at other companies using Equifax Workforce Solutions’ W2 Express. The lawsuit seeks class action status for more than 431,000 Kroger employees as well as former employees and alleges that hackers only had to break a simple password — the combination of an employee’s birth year and last four digits of their Social Security number — to access the sensitive data. The lawsuit also states employees “anticipate spending considerable time and money for the rest of their lives” because of the breach. In other data breach lawsuit news, a case against Anthem Blue Cross following the insurer’s massive data breach, disclosed in February 2015, is moving to trial.
