Google’s Project Shield program has announced it will host security researcher Brian Krebs’ website, KrebsOnSecurity, after a 620 Gbps distributed denial-of-service attack made sustaining the site on previous provider Akamai Technologies’ network impossible, ZDNet reports. While Akamai Technologies had protected Krebs’ site from similar attacks, and this particular DDos attack was unsuccessful, sustaining the site moving forward would have cost the company "millions of dollars in cybersecurity services," the report states. “I don't know what it will take to wake the larger internet community out of its slumber to address this growing threat to free speech and e-commerce,” Krebs said. “But what we're allowing by our inaction is for individual actors to build the instrumentality of tyranny.”
