Kenya has announced a commitment to working with telecommunications companies and civil society advocates as it develops a data privacy and protection framework to safeguard mobile data, the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation reports. Global Partnership for Sustainable Development Data Regional Director for Africa Davis Adieno welcomed Kenya's commitment and added, “Many countries are grappling with similar issues, that’s why we are establishing an international working group with representatives of Ghana, Kenya, Senegal, Sierra Leone, and Tanzania and diverse groups that can inspire collaboration to support achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals through public-private partnership.” Meanwhile, Oluwafemi Osho, an information communication technology professional, called on the Nigerian government to ensure the country’s data privacy law limits the dissemination of "fake news" on social media platforms.
