The American Civil Liberties Union filed a federal class-action lawsuit against Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach that claimed a voter database system released personal voter information to the public, Courthouse News reports. Under Kobach, Kansas voters had their information released to the Interstate Voter Registration Crosscheck Program, which, plaintiffs allege, failed to protect sensitive voter information. Lauren Bonds, legal director of the ACLU of Kansas, said, “This case is about a public official recklessly exposing the personal information of the state’s voters — Republican, Democratic, and unaffiliated alike — and unnecessarily leaving them vulnerable to identity theft.”
