EU Commissioner for Justice Věra Jourová said the Facebook-Cambridge Analytica revelations highlight the importance of protecting data ahead of the EU General Data Protection Regulation, Phys.org reports. Jourová said the Cambridge Analytica case “really opened the eyes of many people who were criticising Europe being too paranoid, too overregulated,” while adding Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s commitment to the GDPR was a more “efficient campaign” than one she believes she could have put together. “It explained that we really are living in the kind of jungle where we are losing ourselves,” Jourová said. “We have been providing the information about our private life, about our identity, about the intimate things. It goes to the black box. And we don't have a clue what is happening there.”
